I have been passionate about photography since the early 70’s, working as a photographer, instructor, camera repair technician, camera equipment designer, and underwater photographer.

I learned my craft through trial and error, a long and sometimes frustrating process! But it certainly provided me with invaluable knowledge in the pursuit of my happiness.

Creating, adapting or modifying my photographic equipment to suit my needs is a huge part of who I have become in this artistic endeavor of mine.

-"Birefringence" is a technique using two polarizing filters with a glass slide between them. Then a suitable material is either melted on or placed and simply allowed to evaporate in order to create a crystalized formation.

The resulting slide and polarizing filters are then put under a microscope attached to a homemade lighting support to house the camera and flash system.

The microscope I use, which I fondly named  ‘’FRANKENSCOPE’’, is made of various parts from different optical manufacturers, many of which were modified, adapted, machined or simply created for this photographic process.

I hope you will enjoy my photography as much as I enjoy creating it!
