Chelsie Xavier-Blower is a freelance outdoors and environmental filmmaker and photographer currently based in Vancouver, Canada.
She creates artistic pieces to share stories of the earth and how people are intricately connected to it. Whether that be through science and conservation, travel and adventure, or in our everyday life. She hopes to inspire people to connect back to our ever-changing world and showcase those who are currently working to protect it.
Chelsie has worked with National Geographic’s Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier and their ocean conservation non-profit SeaLegacy, as their Senior Video Editor and Field Assistant. During this time she traveled to Ghana documenting women empowerment in coastal communities, ventured to Adams River chasing the story of salmon, and documented a whale disentanglement training program in the Great Bear Rainforest.
As a freelancer, she has filmed and photographed dolphin researchers in the archipelagos of BC, scuba diving experiences in tropical Thailand, and film festivals and surf competitions in Australia.
Chelsie is now back in Canada to start working on her own short films/feature docs about women in the outdoors and science community. She holds an H.B.Sc in Wildlife Biology and Conservation and is a graduate of the Environmental Visual Communication program offered by Fleming College. Chelsie is also a founding member of the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective.
Chelsie is proud to be a part of the growing community of women who are adding their voices and perspectives to the male-dominated conservation and outdoor photography industry. Storytelling is a more powerful tool when more diverse voices are being heard.
