Gerald is a member of the Snuneymuxw Band (Coast Salish Nation)
of Vancouver Island, BC Canada. Born in Campbell River and raised at Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island. Gerald grew up with the beaches, forests and creeks as his play ground; today Gerald lives on Little Mountain overlooking the Salish Sea. A creative and self-taught photographer, Gerald has had a passion for exploring the Pacific Northwest Coastal communities to locate and photograph Totem Poles and connect with First Nations carvers from all bands.
Gerald was raised by a very artistic and talented mother who specialized in painting coastal scenery. She would often hold art classes at the family home, and as a child Gerald was being introduced to the composition and structure in artwork.  In his late teens he attended a Snuneymuxw (Coast Salish) Potlatch that impacted his persona. Some First Nations People feel that this is where the seed was planted and Gerald received his vision and desire to photograph the Totem Pole in his later years. Apart from his photography Gerald seeks out the historical information and meaning intended though the hand of the carver, and goes “Beyond the Photograph” to ensure the artist is honored and recognized for their work.
It is through his unique composition and style of photography that Gerald brings new life and excitement to the sometimes over-looked artistry, mythology and ancestral connections that surrounds us in the Pacific Northwest.
